She takes pride in being a mentor for young engineers and encourages everyone to be the best engineer and best person they can be.
Sophia has integrity in everything that she does and cares about the quality of work that she and her team produces.
Background and Experience
Sophia’s career in mission critical began during her first co-op in college working in Schneider Electric’s then-named Data Center Software Solutions group in Massachusetts. She enjoyed how complex the systems that serve data centers were and how amazing it was to see a building come to life. She continued her work on data centers through her time in Vanderweil Engineer’s Mission Critical Group. Sophia currently balances leading Syska’s electrical team in Boston and supporting other team members across the US on critical facility work. Through her experiences at Syska, Sophia has had the ability to grow quickly and become an important part of the critical facility team. Her favorite part of working on data centers is how much they rely on engineering. They are complex systems and for the design to be successful, the entire team must be proficient in what they do.
Involvement with 7×24 Exchange and the Mission Critical Industry
Sophia decided to attend a 7×24 Exchange New England Chapter networking event solo in July 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. She reconnected with old colleagues and quickly became a member of New England’s executive board serving as the chapter’s Administrative Director. She has become an integral part of the board and created structure and organization while holding the rest of the board accountable to the chapter’s goals and objectives. It is Sophia’s personal goal to be a role model for young professionals and show them what can be accomplished when you work hard and are doing something you truly enjoy.
“Sophia is an exceptional member of the 7×24 New England Board. She has quickly become the lynchpin for our Chapter, always making sure we stay focused on our objectives. Sophia has a remarkable ability to distill our many idealistic thoughts into a practical plan. I’m in awe how she balances a busy career in Engineering, completing her master’s degree and volunteering for our Chapter.”
-Aheli Purkayastha, 7×24 Exchange New England Chapter President
