On June 24th the 7×24 Exchange Ohio WiMCO Community organized a virtual event with the participation of the Washington DC, Carolinas, Delaware, Kansas City, New England and Texas South Chapters sponsored by Total Cable Solutions and Power Solutions Group. Juli Ierulli, Chair of the National WiMCO Committee and Lillian Rivera, National WiMCO Committee Member opened the event with the history of the formation of WiMCO and the community’s success during the last four years.
Dr. Julie M. Albright – Digital Sociologist – USC and Infrastructure Masons spoke about “How the Pandemic has Impacted Digital Sociology.” In her presentation, Dr. Albright introduced the concept of “Untethered Society” and the trends around the intersection of technology and behavior and the digital transformation of society and how not only digital natives but everyone has become untethered under COVID. She delivered some overarching trends that are becoming the new normal, which include changes in flights from cities; work from home; acceleration of touchless/automation; desire for security and seeking wellness. Dr. Albright closed the presentation with breakout sessions to discuss the changes in work style, pros and cons and the impact personally and professionally. Judy Von Handorf, Global Account Manager of WESCO Distribution, Inc. wrapped up the virtual event and left the attendees with two words to be followed in both our professional and personal lives, “Intentional” and “Encouragement.”
