7X24 MAGAZINE FALL 2014
OCP has demonstrated that
there’s a real appetite for being
open, for demystifying the data
center, and for sharing best
practices. The momentum from
the industry is matched by the
growing number of people
interested in exploring these
innovations, with thousands
participating in OCP’s projects,
engineering workshops, and
hardware hackathons. Outside of
the United States, OCP Japan
and OCP Taiwan have brought
together dozens of new
members in their first years as
OCP chapters. New chapters also
beginning to form in Europe,
Korea, Philippines, and Australia
/ New Zealand.
As focused as we are on making
our infrastructure as efficient as
possible, we know that there are
more ideas and more innovation
to be found working together
with others in the industry. We
see this occur in the hackathons
and engineering workshops that
OCP organizes around the world.
The concepts behind RDDC
were, in fact, developed in
conjunction with outside experts
in lean construction, and we’ve
learned that it’s helpful to
engage with suppliers and
evaluate options early on in the
process to bring together the
best ideas and execute quickly.
Building sustainable, scalable
computing infrastructure is not
just a Facebook problem – it’s an
issue we all face as data center
operators. In sharing our culture
of openness, efficiency, and
flexibility, we’ll continue to look
for opportunities where we can
partner with others in the
industry to move forward in
connecting the world.
