NASA - The Influence of Solar Flares and Solar Storms: Why We Should Care About Space Weather

[view session info]

Dr. Young received an undergraduate physics degree at Florida State University and a Masters and PhD in high-energy astrophysics at the University of New Hampshire studying cosmic gamma-ray bursts and solar gamma-ray flares.

As part of the NASA/GSFC solar physics laboratory, Dr. Young develops signal and image processing methods and software to facilitate a more complete extraction of scientific information from solar physics data. Both to aid the community as a whole as well as his own research into the prediction and understanding of the dynamic phenomena of the Sun we call space weather. To share information about the sun and space weather with the public Dr. Young has created web and facebook communities.
