Daniel Costello is the Director for Data Center Research and Engineering at Microsoft. He manages a team of Data Center Facility engineers and Service Architects. His responsibilities include Data Center Standards & Technologies, Data Center Technology Roadmap, Next Generation Data Center Engineering, Data Canter Automation and integration with IT hardware, Operating Systems and Applications. Daniel works closely with Microsoft Research on proof of concepts in support of the Data Centre of the Future.
Costello joined Microsoft in June of 2007 and has held various positions in Information Technology including individual contributor and management roles in IT Construction Project Management and Global Infrastructure operations groups. From 1991 to 1997 Daniel was a Lead Engineer and Construction Manager of IT and automation systems with various architectural and engineering consulting and construction companies in support of petro-chemical facilities and semiconductor fabrication plants. From 1997 - 2007 Daniel held various roles at Intel Corporation including the development of an infrastructure Plan Of Record for all factories and their supporting Data Center and Communication rooms, IT Operations for EMEA sites, and Data Center Engineering Manager.
Daniel designed and built his first Data Center in 1995 and has seen a tremendous amount of change in the past 12 years and believes there are great opportunities over the next 12 years.
Costello received a T.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology Dublin in 1993.
