Olivier Sanche is responsible for eBay's global datacenter operation, architecture and strategy.
In his current role, Mr. Sanche is focusing on energy efficient designs and delivering world-class
availability to the eBay site. eBay�s data centers host over 15,000 servers worldwide in support
of 84 million active users, and more than 130 million listings, with 8 million new listings added
every day. A strong advocate for green initiatives, Mr. Sanche is currently in the final design
stages of eBay�s newest datacenter. Under Mr. Sanche�s leadership, this LEED silver certifiable
center plans to deliver advanced efficiencies in cooling and power management.
Mr. Sanche graduated from the University of Montpellier (France) with a dual Masters degree in
Computer Science Engineering and Management. His career began at AT&T as a developer in
the Conyers Network Control Center.
In 2001, after several positions in IT functions, Mr. Sanche was appointed General Manager of
operations for AT&T�s customer facing Internet Data Centers (IDCs). In this role, Mr. Sanche
was responsible for all aspects of operations including IT services, electrical and mechanical
systems, space allocation and optimization, network connectivity (WAN/LAN), data storage
components, physical security, as well as disaster recovery plans. Supporting over 1,000
premier enterprise customers, Mr. Sanche had direct oversight of over 200,000 sqft of raised floor
in 7 Eastern US locations. He successfully implemented disaster recovery procedures in two sites
as a result of floods and tornadoes, and oversaw site expansions in multiple locations adding over
40,000 sqft of raised floor to live data centers. In 2005 Mr. Sanche became Director of Operations
for AT&T�s global data centers. He was tasked to provide a secure and resilient environment for
the infrastructure of more than 200 enterprise customers in 15 sites across Europe and Asia
Pacific, occupying over 40,000 sqft of raised floor. He led the first successful SAS 70 audit and
certification of all AT&T Internet Data Centers worldwide, and supported enterprise customer
growth by overseeing site expansions in Singapore, Hong Kong and the UK, as well as the
commissioning of three new data centers: two in Mainland China and one in Canada.
After leaving AT&T in 2007, Mr. Sanche became head of UK and Ireland Operations at Telecity
Group where he integrated the operation of three merged companies (Telecity, Redbus and
Globix) into a single model. He was responsible for the planning of a new mega datacenter on
the outskirts of London and the expansion of three existing sites.
Mr. Sanche currently resides in Los Gatos, California with his wife Karine and their daughter
Emilie.
