With an extensive professional background, Doug Coleman possesses knowledge in the areas of materials, processes, designs, standards, and applications for optical cable, optical fibers and system design.

Coleman joined Corning Cable Systems in 1979 and has held positions in materials engineering, process engineering, product engineering, applications engineering and currently serves as a marketing manager responsible for technology and standards in the private networks market.

Coleman is active in the development of optical specifications at the Insulated Cable Engineering Association (ICEA), TIA/EIA, IEC, IEEE, and Fiber Channel Standards groups. He is the former first and second vice president of the ICEA communications section, and previous chairman of the ICEA Fiber Optic Outside Plant Communications Cable and SMF 1625 nm Attenuation Working Groups. He also served as chairman of the SCTE Fiber Optic Design and Construction Working Group and was a member of the Telcordia Technical Forum for GR-20, Issue 2, Generic Requirements for Optical Fiber and Fiber Optic Cable, and the BICSI Panel 500 Residential Panel responsible for writing a residential manual. He served as chairman of the SCTE Engineering Construction Committee from 1997 to 2001.

Coleman has been awarded nine domestic and 12 international patents. In 1987, he was recognized as Corning Cable Systems' Inventor of the Year. He has also published numerous technical articles and made presentations at technical forums such as BICSI, ACUTA, 7x24, AFCOM and SCTE. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
